Not quite a stout but definitely no lightweight, Cutthroat Porter is smooth and robust. Inspired by the classic London porters, the brewery uses dark roasted malts to create a deep, rich color and flavor that hint at chocolate and coffee. The beer was named Cutthroat Porter as a tribute to the Colorado state fish – with its own rich heritage and unmistakable dark coloring.

This is a really good porter. There’s no one thing that stands out (I bought it served really cold which numbs the taste a little) but it’s really nice. Good balance of malt and hop, a bit of charcoal-y bitter to balance it out. Very drinkable.

Keg at the exmouth arms. Dark chestnut brown colouth with a thin cream head. Aroma is subdued choc , wood and twigs. Flavour is woody choc ans soft coffee in the finish. Very clean ferment. Chalky palate. Light body for a potter and high carbonation. Not much going on. Prefer some of the London porters this is too sterile.

Bottle at Brauhaus. Pours near black with a thin head than doesn’t hang around. Aromas of coffee, roasted malt and chocolate. Sweet vanilla note on the taste, decent roasty bitterness. Soft carbonation. Good.
