Not quite a stout but definitely no lightweight, Cutthroat Porter is smooth and robust. Inspired by the classic London porters, the brewery uses dark roasted malts to create a deep, rich color and flavor that hint at chocolate and coffee. The beer was named Cutthroat Porter as a tribute to the Colorado state fish – with its own rich heritage and unmistakable dark coloring.

Bottle at home - Apr ’12. Extreme dark brown to black on colour with a thinnish off-white head. Dark lightly roasted malts on the nose with chocolate and coffee in the background. Tastes follow from nose with a little vanilla in the mix allied to earthy hops. Medium bodied with a good level of carbonation and a smooth finish. Decent enough middle of the road porter!

12oz bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. Pours pitch black with a ruby glow and a loose beige head that falls back rapidly leaving a ring to lace the glass; chocolate malt aroma; soft and smooth in the mouth with a sweet, lactic, chocolate malt flavour; the finish is thin and malty. Needs more body to be a proper Porter.
