Bottle: As black as ink, smal tanned layer; smoke, wood, ashes and a tinge of caramel in the solid nose; moderate to solid sweet-bitter flavour, medium to full bodied, pretty soft;; lingering sweet-malty and bitter-malty finish with a smoky aftertaste. Well, well, well......

Bottled. Quite much pitch black colour with a mediumsized brown foamy head. Aroma is roasted malts, mild dark fruityness, some smoked wet wooden notes as well as quite strong ashyness. Flavour is ashy, chocolaty, smoked wet wooden, quite roasted malty as well as some slight coffeeish notes. A very pleasantly balanced brew, which also shows some slight alcoholic notes as it gets warmer.

Corked "champagne" bottle, as Flying Dog Schwarz Smoked Double Lager, ABV 7.8%. IBU 25. Kindly shared by gunnar. Black colour, low tan head. Moderate aroma of dark malts and smoke. Very smoky flavour, the smoke dominates a bit too much for my taste.

Courtesy of bierkoning, thanks Edo!
Dark ruby-brown color, small beige head. Aroma of light smoke and papery grainyness. Full-bodied, smooth and soft palate. Flavor has tar, licorice, Bavarian smoke malts and quite strong bitterness for 25 EBU beer. Warming with lingering smokeyness. This is interesting smoked beer as it is not trying to be a copy of Schlenkerla. Unfortunately aroma was a bit odd.

Black with a ruby tint. Bare naked surface. Subdued, smoked malty aroma. Sweet, lightly smoked malts in flavour joined by anise. Hidden alcohol. Easy to drink and very suitable with the cheddar cheese. Half pint poured from keg at The White Horse in London, 05.10.2010.
