This was cloying, sweet, and just a huge malt bomb. It was like dipping a piece of bread into a vat of alcohol, and brown sugar, and then fermenting it. It was way too seweet to finish, the alcohol was very prominent. Not a very good beer.

(2 avril 2013)

Lots of caramel in the flavor. Molasses as well. Sweet a bit. Not enough complex flavors for a high ABV beer.

16 ounce bottle from Once Upon a Vine, Richmond, VA. Pours a dark but clear red with nearly no head. Aroma of a strange candied fruit note, smoke, berries, raisins, sugar and a faint hoppiness. The taste is sweet sugary fruit notes, raisins, citrus faint tofffeeish malts, a very faint bit of anise. Medium bodied. Very sweet, almost a bit too much but not quite. What’s with this brewery and the overly sweet beers?

A cognac like dark copper ale with a thin light moka head. In aroma, dark fruit esters with plums and light off notes. In mouth, a sweet fusel alcohol, molasses, treacle rather short in mouth, not as expected, underwhelming alcohol bomb. On tap at brewpub, April 23, 2010.

50cl bottle at the DC local tasting. Pours a clear, transparent, copper, amber with zero head. Aroma is sweet, a little metallic, spice but a weird banana thing happening. Flavor is sweet, caramel, candy, bananas, a little pine. Full bodied. WAY too sweet though. One note.
