Cloudy orange amber with tiny white head. Nose is sweet fruit with apricot, pear, apple and lemon in the mix. Also present are notes of honey and spice and a light yeast backing. Medium light sweetness moves to a tart and spicy middle but the flavour doesn’t hold the same promise as the nose and can’t cover the alcohol. Mouth is medium and creamy with soft carbonation. Something seems slightly off, but I can’t put my finger on it.

Purchased in a small convenient store on Duluth, in Montreal. Pours a very slight hazed golden colour with a little amber hue. Creamy off-white head that does not stay long, but creates a bit of creamy-thick lace. Fruity malts with a little bread, honey, citrus (oranges), spices (coriander) and notes of other fruits like pears to blend things. Medium-bodied with a little effervesces. Warming mouthfeel with a little alcohol, but not too much showing. Taste of bread malt, again predominant (from the barley), with hints of citrus, apples and spices. Not bad, but the malt is a little too strong compared to having nice Belgian Ale yeast and spices at the front, for this style.

Bottle: Poured a lightly hazy orangey color ale with a small foamy head with minimal retention and not much lacing. Aroma of candi sugar and Belgian malt is a bit simplistic for the style. Taste is also a mix between some candi sugar notes with light Belgian malt notes. I hard a though time finding some notes of fruity ester and yeast notes as I usually associate with the style. Body was about average with somewhat of an oily texture and medium carbonation with no apparent alcohol. A bit of a letdown with many characteristics I usually associate with the style that were not easily identifiable.

A symphony of aromas with notes of citrus, orange, banana, spices and pepper. Typical non filtered cloudy appearance. Color is golden and head is almost absent. Very warm and round mouthfeel. Malt is perfectly roasted with accents of orange, cinnamon and pepper. The texture is creamy and it reminds me of a liquor called ’’triple sec’’. Very complex beer and very well balanced. A very good trappist inspiration beer.

Bouteille 341ml.

It’s alright. There’s a little astringence. A clear colour without much cloudiness. Some nice foamy head. There’s a little bit of something weird going on that I can’t put my finger on but it shouldn’t be there. It’s drinkable, though. Bottle from Peluso’s.
