a solid porter, good roasted malt, and coffee notes, a touch watery, but overall a good session porter, not too heavy, and flavorful.

On tap at Vice et Versa, pours a very dark amber brown with a small tan head. Aroma is characterized by cocoa powder, with some secondary charcoal notes. Flavour is very stale and coal-like, with week-old stale coffee that pretty much dominates, a bit of muffled coal notes on the finish. Quite poor, with no real depth or pleasant subtleties.

Dégustée en fût au Vices & Versa à Montréal. De couleur noire et opaque. Nez de malt rôti doux, moyen de café noir avec des petites notes de chocolat noir, de houblon herbeux et de malt fumé. Moyenne-mince en bouche avec un pétillement moyen et une texture légèrement crémeuse. Très léger goût de fumée de bois accompagné de petites notes d’anis et de traces de fruits (dates) lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute rapidement un goût de malt moyennement rôti avec des notes de chocolat noir puis en finale l’on retrouve une moyenne amertume provenant d’un léger goût de houblon herbeux et de café. Post-goût moyen et un peu sec, moyennement amer de houblon herbeux, moyen de rôti et léger de café. (hiver 2006-07)

Sampled on tap at Max’s Baltimore. Pours a medium bodied, deep brown with one ring of beige head. Aroma is a nice mix of coffee, nuts, milk chocolate, lightly smoky, almost like a good BBQ sauce. Flavor is sweet, malty, dark bread, milk chocolate. Finish is watery with a touch of coffee bitterness.

Brown bottle, 750 ml, purchased at Le Grand Duc on December 5 2008, savoured on January 17 2009; eye: black, opaque, cappuccino head that rapidly turns into a tiny ring, no lacing; nose: roasted malt, light pepper; mouth: roasted malt, pepper, buttery, somewhat dry finale in roasted malt with presence of pepper, a bit thin, medium-light body, not much carbonation, lightly bitter, somewhat oily texture but also watery; overall: ordinary FRANÇAIS Bouteille brune, achetée chez Le Grand Duc le 5 décembre 2008, savourée le 17 janvier 2009; œil : noire, opaque, mousse cappuccino qui se transforme rapidement en un petit anneau, pas de dentelle; nez : malt rôti, léger poivre; bouche : malt rôti, poivre, beurrée, finale un peu sèche en malt rôti avec présence de poivre, un peu mince, corps moyen-léger, peu carbonatée, légèrement amère, texture légèrement huileuse mais aussi aqueuse; en résumé : ordinaire

A deep dark porter with a thick collapsing off white head. Light chocolate malt in aroma, milkey and pleasant, powdery. In mouth , a nice clean bitter chocolate, grainy, lightsour notes. A bit thin but overall good porter. On tap at brewpub, April 2008.
