A midnight black stout where the aromas of chocolate, coffee and coconut enhance a rich palate of bittersweet chocolate, cocoa and an uplifting hint of citrus.

Hand-pulled half-pint in the Three Fishes on 7th November 2024. Black bodied, tanned topping. Roasted, toasted malty nose and initial taste, some coffee and chocolate notes, not getting the coconut or citrus flavours mentioned in the beers write up.

Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford. Pours a very dark reddish brown with a dense foamy beige head and good lacing. There’s a muted aroma of roast malts with some coffee bitterness. Strong dark chocolate stands out in the mouth, along with coffee grounds and liquorice. All on a creamy base of roasted malts and vanilla. Finish is quite bitter. Pretty d*mn good !

Handpull cask at the Salmon, Leicester. And here ends 230,000 pub-free minutes, thank goodness! Back to the beer, which is a deliciously dark brown with a slightly loose light brown head. Lots of lacing. Toasty malts and lots of savoury coconut in the aroma. There's a chalky bitterness in the taste and a sour coconut note. Light suggestions of black pepper and unsweetened cooking chocolate. Gritty bitter finish. It's pretty good, not as outstanding as Salesian's best beers but certainly worth trying.

Cask pint @ The Three Fishes. Pours pitch black, nice lasting deep beige head. Aroma produces confident roasted malts and coffee. Continues to taste to form a nice roasty stout character, with a smooth full body and curious berry notes adding some layered sweet nuances. Great stout.
