Bottle. Xmas gift from the missus. Nearly black. Good tan head is glossy dense and lasting. Nose has char. Liquorice. Bit of Turkish coffee. Taste has some sweetness up front but is mostly dry and ashy bitter. Plenty of depth and flavour. Drinks well overall. Dry light bitter finish. Impressive for the 4%.

Keg at Overdraft Bedford Place. Opaque cola brown. Thin foamy beige head. Aroma is lowest key. Some berries and coffee... I guess. Flavourwise we have tangy berries and coldbrew coffee. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Soft-average carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Dece.

Bottle. Nose is very roasty and smokey, ash, tobacco dominate, with soy and faint chocolate. Taste is roast, smoke, lots of ash, a little coffee, medicinal, light soy. Thinner body than you would imagine and very bitter.

Cask at Crewe Dog, Crewe. Pours a very dark reddish brown with a small beige head and good lacing. Some roast malts in the nose, but not particularly pronounced. In the mouth it has a creamy texture but is a ibt thin. Initial flavour is vanilla, but later on liquorice and cough mixture come to the fore. Chocolate is there too adding to an underlying sweetness. Finish is bitter and spicy with aniseed. This is a nice and complex beer, that isn’t too overwhelming – just right !

500ml bottle from Chesterfield Craft. Nice dark appearance, modest tan head. Woody roast on the nose. Taste brings proper woody charred, big coffee, bitter dark chocolate.. relatively light bodied. Good stuff this.
