We all need to treat ourselves a bit this year, so here's the perfect excuse. Taking the classic Kir Royale cocktail as inspiration, we've devised a clean, dry IPA base recipe before embellishing with floral and red berry flavours from a generous hop contingent. The beer is completed with beautiful blackcurrant purée and an exuberant effervescence.

440ml can from the brewery. Poured a hazy reddish amber with a short-lived, frothy white head. The aroma is blackberries and floral hops. The flavour is moderate to light sour, with a fresh, crisp, tart blackberry, earthy, mineral, floral hop palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Not the greatest for me. Seemed a little unbalanced.

Can at home, from Siren online, 03/01/21. Lightly hazed cherry red with a decent crimson covering. Nose is stoned fruits, vibrant red berries, light pine, grass, light tropicana. Taste comprises grass, squeeze of lime, stoned fruits, light blackcurrant rasp, pine, lemon tinged straw, gooseberries. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close spiked with grassy to lightly dankened hop bitterness. Solid stuff ... good fun take on what it sets out to be.

Can at home from Siren online. A mostly clean bright pink purple red coloured pour with a small fading pink head. Aroma is nice fresh berries, smoked cherries, light plastic. Flavour is composed of dry pithy, light wheat, mixed dry berries, dry cranberries, lingering plastic notes. Palate is refreshing, crisp, drying finish, powdery carbonation. Quite unique. Fun stuff.

Can. Hazy pinky red beer, small pale pink colour head. Palate is light and fairly dry, decent fine carbonation. Thin malts, some modest sweetness. Yeah, reasonably good dark berries, not quite the full blackberry punch, well I'm being polite, nothing like it! But not apologetic either. A whisper of citrus hop but the thin blackberry and blackcurrant still dominates it. Crisp dry finish. Slightly bitter blackcurrant linger. This beer sums up Siren to me, capable of greatness but missing more than they are hitting, very inventive but the beers not following through on those good ideas. This is a drinkable blackberry fruit beer. Just lacks something to bring alive.
