The Christmas ale by this lovely Amsterdam brewing company, bottle shared by Craftmember. Mousy, pale yellowish beige, membrane-lacing, creamy head over a misty copper-hued chestnut brown robe. Aroma of cinnamon, cloves, gingerbread, dried fig, dried banana, toffee, coffee dust-sprinkled cake, liquorish, ripe pear and some glue- or varnish-like solvent notes. Fruity onset, banana, pear and fig accents, sweetish with softish carb, fluffy and somewhat powdery mouthfeel; caramelly and sweet brown-bready malt body, finishing in outspoken ‘Xmas spiciness’, reminiscent of cloves, coriander seed and cinnamon. Spice bready and dried banana-like notes in the finish with a touch of those solvents returning; a thin but effective toasty-bitterish aspect is present as well, next to a rum-like warming alcohol glow, but the whole ends primarily malty and sweet, a little bit sticky even. Much less 'Doppelbock' than Belgian style Christmas ale the classic way, in itself based on Scotch, see the majority of the dark Belgian Christmas ales released in this time of the year. Not bad in that sense.

Taste: malt sweetness, some caramel, lots and lots of ripe banana, soft bitterness, more banana, some chocolate. Aftertaste: sweet, malty, sugary, soft roast, caramel, more banana, some chocolate, alcohol is pretty noticeable.
