44cl can from Abeervinum, Rimini, Italy. Pours black with limited, quickly vanishing foam. Aroma is chocolate, coffee and hazelnut. Body is a little dense, with moderate carbonation. Taste is medium sweet, with a nice roasty bitterness. Final is just above average.

Can from Londis, Knighton, Leicester. Dark brown, practically black. A tiny uneven layer of light brown head. The aroma is quite delicate and complex, with notes of liquorice, molasses, cough syrup. Bittersweet, chalky taste with more liquorice and some stone fruit. Medicinal bitterness in the finish. Soft carbonation. Very well put together.

440mL can, pours an amber-tinged, deep dark brown with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out gentle roast, a hint of cocoa, and subtle red fruits. Flavour is along the same lines, with toasted malt, a hint of cocoa, and red fruits. Toasted malt finish. There really isn't a whole of depth to this. A bit vacant on the mouthfeel. Bitter finish. Pretty underwhelming.

440ml can. Pours black with a thick beige head. Aroma of roast malts, dark chocolate, a touch of coffee. Taste of strong roast malts, dark chocolate, a touch of smokiness and some dark fruits in the background. Medium-full bodied, very smooth and relatively easy drinking. A fantastic no nonsense stout.

Keg at the Star and Garter, Bromley. Nose of smoke, chocolate, coffee. Smoky malt and chocolate taste. Very nice.
