Never heard of our noticed this beer before. 500mL swingtop, no date. Clear brown body, thick head, sticky lacing. Almost as beautiful as a lager can be. Aroma is deep and clean smoke, strong but not overwhelming. Just the most freshest, cleanest, yet simplest and rauchiest of smoke. Flavor is full smoke with clean and clear lagering. I have no idea what this beer was but it’s up there with Scherlenkerla.

500 ml bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Listed as 4.9% on the label. Pours crystal clear reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of wood smoke, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness, herbal, grass, light pepper, slight fruitiness, herbal/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready/smoked malts and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big wood smoke, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness, herbal, grass, light pepper, slight fruitiness, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of wood smoke, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness/pepper, and herbal/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/smoked malts and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Very clean on lager flavors with minimal yeast notes present. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and fairly creamy/bready/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.9%. Overall this is a very nice rauchbier style. All around good robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/bready/smoked malts and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Pint at Bedford Bamberg Beer Festival 2015. Dark ruby with a beige creamy head. Nutty, smoky scent with a hint of forest fruit. Ambrosial taste with a smoky sweetness riding the initial bitter flavour. The bitterness re-asserts itself on the finish. A gorgeous smoked beer.
