Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout aged for three months in Wild Turkey Bourbon Barrels. Deep ebony hue with a beautiful mahogany head, an aroma of fresh-baked bread, toffee, and espresso mingling with the woody vanilla notes of Bourbon whiskey and the rich roasted flavors wrapped with Bourbon.

Bottle, 650 ml, courtesy of Max. Shared with him and JFK10000. Pours black with medium beige head. Some bourbon, chocolate, roasted malts, bitterish finish. Smooth. Seems a bit thin to support the barrel. Soft carbonation. Medium bodied.

Acquired on a wing and a prayer, no experience with Anderson Valley. The bomber delivers a dark reddish-brown body and a slender, light brown top. I take a full smell. Caramel, grain, malt. On to a drink. Hmm, not what I anticipated. Lightly stout-like, vanilla, toffee and some astringency. A decent bitterness concluding. But far from a high level stout.

Black with a brown head - Roasted malt aroma - Roasted malt body with wood, vanilla, and bourboun flavours - The vanilla and bourboun goes into a long lasting finish - This had a heavy bourbon flavour that made this good

This is a very interesting barrel aged stout. Aroma is very sour, very bretty. Makes it a rather funky affair. Very complex and interesting though, the Bourbon barrel is really very noticeable, also gives nice vanilla note. Medium body. Flavour is malty, quite sweet, lots of vanilla and bourbon flavours. Almost not sour compared to aroma. Not a very long finish, but a roasty vanilla taste remains. Weird but nice!

As much as I’m tired of such beers, I enjoyed this. It was not a punch in the mouth. Nice balanced sweetness, semidry at finish with notes of coffee and dark chocolate, some roast. The bourbon element was fairly restrained, mostly a hint of whiskey in the nose, just a bit of vanilla.
