February 2019: 500 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet Sauda. ABV is 6.5%. Matured in oak vats that previously contained St. Hallvard herbal liqueur. Brewed with cocoa nibs and wild cherries. Black colour, small beige head. Aroma of sour cherries, chocolate and herbal liqueur. Sour cherries dominate the flavour, also marzipan, roast malts and cocoa notes. Herbal liqueur in the background. The different flavour elements do not blend well together, appears unbalanced. Won't buy again.

Botle, backlog March 2018. Clear amber body under a nice, dense, beige head. A bit weak in aroma, malt with hint of ripe fruit and apples. Taste is medium sweet, malty, old wood, some cherry, apple and notes of alcohol (probably from the barrels). Medium body and same aftertaste. Feels a bit unbalanced this.

Bottle, at Haandgemeng. It's an unclear brown beer topped by a small light beige head leaving some lacing. The aroma has some dark rye bread, caramel and burnt malts in the far back, with cocoa, wood, roasted malts, alcohol, coffee, chocolate notes and a herbal hint. Guess the herbal note comes from the barrels it's been cellared on. It's full-bodied, smooth and nicely carbonated, quite sweet ,with a suitable bitterness level. Roasted malts, alcohol warmth, some coffee and dark chocolate, cocoa, wood, bread and a touch of burnt malts in the flavor. Lasting malt driven finish. A really delicious one indeed, sure a beer worthy as a Christmas beer. 171027
