Cask at Smithfield, Derby – as Windy Miller Oat Malt Stout. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small cream head. Theres malts and lactose in the aroma. In the mouth it has a creamy texture with oats, roast malts, strawberries, fudge and a hint of cocoa. Finish is a bit sticky – overall this is rather nice.

(Bottle) Pours black with tiny white head. Aroma of roast grains and veges. Light body and carbonation. Surprisingly tart in a somewhat vinegary way with some roast malt. Not good. Maybe this was off.

Creamy light brown head left a spotty cover on still black body. Looks amazing. Malt, tar & liquorice aroma. Medium bodied, creamy with a lighter clean back. Malt, liquorice, burnt & toasted tastes with a tangy fruity finish. Nice one.

500ml Bottle: BBD Dec 2014, poured carefully (it is bottle conditioned) into an Abbot Ale badged glass tankard at home on 22nd Aug 2014. Really dark, in fact it is black with a deep ruby hue at the edges. The head was a thin tanned covering at first, but after two sips it had sunk to a wisp and collar. A bit sour in nature with roasted maltiness and a fair share of bitterness. Hints of chocolate and coffee but not a great amount to get into really. OK, but it just lacks that extra flavour of whatever to make it a ’class act’. I liked it, but wanted more of everything (and less liquor (water)).

500ml bottle from the breweries shop. Colour is dark almost black, with a thin tan head and almost no lacing. Aroma is a bit bready. Taste has caramel, cereal and a bitter finish.
