Draught, 250ml glass on a sample tray at Cardinal in Stavanger. A shiny black surface to a jet black body. Dotted spots on the glass. Dark malty aroma, subdued chocolate notes. Taste of chocolate malts joined by black coffee notes and followed by a mild and lingering chili taste towards the ending. Fine bodied. Likable sipper, not overdone in anyway (20.06.2015).

Duft av røyk, bek, kaffe, lakris, vanilje og sjokolade. Tynt lag brunt skum. Dup sort farge. Nydelig smak av kaffe, sjokolade og en skarp sittende smak av chilli.

Black in colour. Coffee in aroma. Slightly sour taste, with heavy chili aftertaste. Perhaps slightly short taste. First brew was more complex and in harmony, and had thicker mouthfeel. Still not bad :-)

On tap @ Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours black, with a quite small head. Aroma is burned malts with chocolate and coffee. Body is full creamy, with a soft carbonation. Flavour is sweet with caramel and chocolate, as well as coffee and kandi before a strong peppery chili kicks the hell out of everything and lasts throughout the finish.

On tap @ Cardinal. Black body with a thin beige head. Lovely aroma of dark malt, roasted coffee and chocolate. Honestly I was not able to detect any chili in the aroma. Flavor has a nice, sweet dark maltiness, coffee, dark chocolate, smooth roast and no chili. No chili? What a surprise. But then almost a minute later the chili starts warming from deep down my throat and slowly fills my whole mouth. Not really burning, but quite warming and pretty dominating. After a few more sips this beer feels like just sweet chocolate chili and frankly more like a novelty than a proper beer. But then again my experience of this beer altered for the third time and it becomes really pleasant. This is the kind of beer you can’t claim to have tasted by 5 cl, you definitively need a full glass. And the next beer thereafter is spoiled by the chili. This was a funny experience for me.

On tap at Cardinal. A more or less black one, topped by a small, beige head. There’s a hint of chili on the nose, with roasted malts, cold coffee and some dark chocolate. Quite chili warming on the palate, full bodied and soft on the carbonation. There’s chili, roasted malts, coffee and dark chocolate in the flavour, some sweetness too. Mostly chili in the finish, but some roasted malts and herbal notes chimes in. Overall, a pleasant beer indeed, but I’d like more chocolate. 121022
