May 2010: Pint taken on the veranda of Hotel El Tovar, on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, beat that view if you can! The beer was a healthy amber colour, very slight haze, but not enough to get excited about. On top sat a thin white head which hung around for a while. The aroma was mostly hops, a variety maybe, but mostly hops. The taste was mainly hops, the same variety as the smell, but again mostly hops. A dry bitterness with a hint or two of malt make this a very drinkable beer. They haven’t tried to over hop this beer, it sits nicely below the IPA levels and although it leans towards being that style they’ve resisited to go that far, good.

Pours a rather cloudy orangeish-brown, with mid-sized head. Aroma is floral and citrus. Flavors include citrus and a fairly grassy hop character, that isn’t all that appealing. Mildly bitter finish/aftertaste to the beer.

Pour is a clear orange with a small white head. Aroma is a small pine hop with a sweet malt in the backround. Flavor is a quickly disapearing hop with some dry malts toward the end. Nothing really great as the flavor is kind of weak and watery where nothing stands out. It’s a average at best pale ale.

Tap in Vail. Golden orange appearance with an off white head. Piney, orange citrusy hoppy aroma. Somewhat tangy, orange, grapefruit citrusy, piney hoppy, sweet pale malty flavor. Pretty good brew.

Bottle. Just hazy amber with an off-white head. Aroma of grapefruit, kumquat, mild honey. Taste has honey sweetness, a little biscuit, dry finish with balancing bitterness. A tad sweet for me, but it’s probably lost a bit of zest in getting here.

Bottle from GBBF 2011 drunk at home. Clear amber colour with lasting beige head. Hoppy aroma grapefruity. Tasty enough pale ale with a touch of mintyness to the hops. Enough malt to back up the hops. Quite bitter on the finish. Actually the mintyness on the finish is a bit too obvious. Fine but the hops could be a little more flavourful.

Draught @ St. Augustine’s, Vancouver, BC
Pours dark orange with a small head. Aroma has hints of malts and English hops. Taste has notes of malt and spices. Quite murky taste with a sweet and bitter finish. A bit unbalanced, but still a good beer.

Medium beige creamy head. Amber body with carbonation. Floral tropical fruit aroma with resiny citric notes. Dry (and faintly sweet) resiny floral taste with tropical fruit notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dry wooden papery fruity aftertaste with grassy dandelion notes. Lovely. (0.4l draft at Anchor & Hope, San Francisco.)

Bottle pours light amber with a medium off white head. Aroma is big toast and earthen hops. Flavor is toasted malt, a little nutty with a big cascade finish that is slightly dry. Nice pale ale.
