Bottle at home from the brewery picked up during my birthday trip. Good pour and for 4.4%there is a huge amount going on. Rich hops, dark malt and a real mouthfeel. Really good.

[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading.] A dark mahogany coloured pour with a reddish glint and a tight coffee coloured head; blackcurrant aroma; creamy in the mouth with a blackcurrant taste and a roasted malt body adding some bitterness; then a dry finish with a touch of milk chocolate. Unusual, but very drinkable.

Cask at Archibald Simpsons, Aberdeen. It pours a deep ruby to black with a lasting, sturdy dark tan head. The aroma is dark roasted malt, bitter dark chocolate, charred notes, burnt toast, dried fruits, toasted fruit cake, orange sherbet and some floral vibes. The taste is dry, bitter snap, dark roasted malt, slightly charred, ashy, floral, toothy, peppery spice, cacao nibs and burnt toast with a lingering bitter/burnt finish. Medium body and moderate, fluffy cask carbonation. Is pretty brash/harsh to be honest. Some nice aspects , but packaged together it's a bit much.

Cask at the Counting House, Glasgow. Pours clear dark red-brown with a thin beige head. Aromas of light blackcurrant and liquorice. Taste is more of the same. Light sweet finish.

Cask at Babington Arms, Derby. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small foamy tan head and good lacing. There’s malts and dark fruits in the aroma. In the mouth it starts off sweet, but with some underlying bitterness and flavours of bread rolls and berry fruits. Later on liquorice comes through strongly plus traces of aniseed and blackcurrant. Finish is dry and quite bitter. This is decent enough. I’m not sure it’s hoppy enough to be regarded as a black IPA, but then again I’m not sure what category I would put it in.

Not to be confused with the previous Crafty Fox, a 5.0% Red Ale

Wetherspoon Spring Beer Festival 2019. Cask @ Hedley Verity, Leeds. Dark reddy-brown with a creamy head. It’s stronger tasting than expected with its texture very palatable. There’s some light dry dark malts, which subdue a background fruitiness.
