Aroma of roast malts and cocoa / chocolate, hints of aquavit and oak. 440ml can from EuroSpar Langnes. Patchy surface leaving spotty lacing on the glass. Almost black in the glass. Chocolate and cocoa aromas with a subdued vanilla scent, quite inviting. Chocolate malty flavours, lightly spiced with cinnamon. Woody. Prolonged ending. Pretty nice, but not quite the right one to our herring dish. (Tromsø 22.12.2019).

Can. It's close to black in the glass, topped by a finger-thick dark beige head leaving some curtains. The aroma has a pleasant touch of vanilla, reinforcing the chocolate malts and caramel. Bread, roasted malts, pine cones and a wee hint of cinnamon blends in. Can't really say I notice the barrel ageing, except there's a kind of spicyness there that might come from the booze. It's very smooth on the palate, full-bodied and nicely carbonated, mostly on the sweet side, but with a nice underlying bitterness. Chocolate, vanilla, roasted malts, cinnamon notes, some coffee and pine cones, caramel sauce, and bread crust. Lasting finish. A very pleasant Christmas beer in the lower ABV range. I'll buy more of these for sure. 191222

Can from Meny. Almost pitch black body under a big, creamy tan head. Aroma has lots of chocolate and some vanilla. Taste is quite sweet, smooth dark malt, lots of chocolate, vanilla, nutty cream and lactose sweetness. Surprisingly rich in flavors and body for this low ABV. Long lasting, sweet chocolate aftertaste. A rather nice and tasty desert beer in my book, not too sweet even if it’s far on the sweeter side of a beer made as complementary to Christmas food. Reading the label regarding traditionally made Christmas beer, barrel aged and aquavit I really had to check if I got the right beer in my glass. This has nothing with traditional beers to do, this is a modern sweetened stout, close to a pastry stout and I’m not able to find the faintest trace of barrel nor aquavit flavors here. But ignoring the label text and not expect whats described here this is actually a nice and well flavored desert beer within the Norwegian grocery marked class. Specially if you have a sweet tooth but still prefer an actually beer before floating brownies or vanilla ice cream.
