Bottle. Slightly sour roasty malt aroma. Deep mahogany with a small tan head. Same as nose, slightly sour roasty malt flavor, with a lingering herbal bitter finish. Light watery body, moderate carbonation. Tastes and smells nothing like a porter.

500ml bottle - Very deep dark coloured body with a large dark tan head with good lacing.Roasted grainy malt aromas. In the taste it was a little bit of liquorice upfront, some burnt chocolate and also coffee, the citrus is there with a bitter ending. Not bad really.

Dość dobry porter, ale jak dla mnie zbyt mało wyrazisty. Ładny machoniowy kolor, piana średnia, aromaty goryczkowo-chlebowe. Słód pochodzenia ekologicznego.

This beer came as Mr. George. Quite dark, but not black. Sparkles nicely in the glass. Very mild typical slight roasty porter aroma. Decent flavor but comes across a little watery on the palate. Perhpas there is some of that mild wild attribute in there. Simple clear olfactory emerges. Yas, overall a porter whcih is not over the top and has some of that old world feel to it.

Bottle: Deep ruby-amber coloured, medium-sized - slowly collapsing - off-white head, dry malty nose, dominated by the aroma of dark dried fruits, that creates an almost vinous touch; moderate dry bitter-sweet flavour, soft and almost medium bodied; lingering dry bitter, dry malty finish, accompanied by a certain fruitiness. Quite good...

Very dark beer that pours with a foamy, beige head. Coffee-esque flavour that it’s not as full-bodied as you might expect with a surprisingly gentle flavour for the strength. There’s fruit in there which is quite tangy with coffee and chocolate giving it an almost earhy quality to balance it out.

500ml bottle. Clear dark brown with small but firm frothy beige head. Dark malty aroma with chocolate notes, bitter hoppy overtone. Dry roasted dark malt in combination with dry and sourish hop scratch on metallic taste, dry tart finish. Slightly watery and light bodied.

[1st rate, 6/4/3/3/7: 500ml bottle, gift from Maureen & Dave - cheers!] Pours dark brown with a large foamy beige head and a light fizz. Roasted malt up front turns to charcoal. A lot of liquorice and a hint of space. Some metal. Burnt malt is bitter, astringent and unpleasant by the dryish finish. Was hoping that, as my first dark Bateman’s beer, this might turn out to be the first brew of theirs that I really liked, but alas, this was not the case. rb 6/4/3/3/7 [2nd rate 25/12/2014, gift from my wife - cheers!] Choc malt & roastiness and plums and liquorice. Little bit burnt and thin. Better than I remember but still not great. rb 6/3/6/3/13. Rating shown is the average of all ratings.

Bottle from Morrisons, Sidcup. Dark red pour with a beige head. Toffee apple and caramel aroma. Very fruity. Orchard fruit and toffee taste. Dry, fruity finish. Interesting.
