A refreshing beer of real flavour - distinctively hoppy and dry with malt aromas. Delicious served cool.
Adnams brewery has stood in the heart of Southwold for over six hundred years and "Southwold Jack" appears on our beer labels. He continues to guard over our longest-serving beer brewed here in Southwold on the Suffolk coast -The Bitter. Bitter goes well with roast meats and fish cooked in batter as the clean bitterness cuts through the slightly fatty notes and hence keeps the palate refreshed. Our Bitter also makes a good aperitif.

Can from Systembolage. What the hell was I rating up until now. A tinny-ish bitter that hits the spot if youre not paying too much attention. CAramel look. Some hop coming off in the aftertaste.

Cask at The King's Arms, Waterloo. This seems to be the new name of the same beer that MJ listed in his 500, so I will treat it as one. Deep copper-brown, lace. Lightly malty, bready nose, some caramel, spicy hops with a touch of citrus. Flavor is light, thin, minerally, light caramel, spicy hops. Finish is not all that bitter, medium, but nicely peppery and prickly. Typical bitter but not all that satisfying.

Bottle at home. I used to drink loads of these, but this is the first since I started keeping records. This is a very good bitter and one that I would quite happily recommend to anyone. Lots of malt and balancing bitter hops with rich mouthfeel all wrapped up in a low abv. I had this with my Sunday roast dinner and it was a perfect match. A classic.

Cask at pub in Kent. A dark copper coloured pour with a creamy beige head. Aroma is wet grassy, silage, hay, brown sugars, nutty malts. Flavour is composed of rustic brown malts, grassy silage, brown bread. Palate is semi sweet creamy carbonation. Ok.
