Moa Imperial Stout is a very strong, upfront and rich beer hopped to over 100 IBUs. Aged with French oak, this beer not only displays coffee, mocha and smoked cedar characters but also some sweet and savoury notes unique to Moa Imperial Stout. A great beer to cellar and age.
Tasting Notes
Moa Imperial Stout is a very strong, bold upfront and rich offering of a famous beer style. Aged with French Oak, this beer not only displays coffee and mocha charters but also some sweet and spicy notes. A tannin like finish and an oak induced mellow bitterness makes it a serious stout. Moa Imperial Stout is best served just below room temperature in a tulip glass.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with perfect retention and great lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with light dry bitter notes is perfectly balanced against some nice vinous notes. Taste is also dominated by roasted malt with some light dry bitter notes and some excellent vinous notes which really don’t clash. Light black chocolate notes can also be detected. Body is light for style with perfect carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Magnificent marriage of different flavours.

375 mL (I think?) bottle from Beer Run, opened 12/12/13. Pours a dark brown color with a thin brown head. Fair head retention. Aroma of bitter chocolate, nuts, cocoa, red wine. The taste is bitter roasted malts, bitter chocolate, leather, tart dark fruits. Medium bodied. Decent.

Bottle from Taphouse by Brewerkz, Singapore
Dark color, almost black, with creamy beige head. The aroma is dynamic, delicate nutty malts and some good hops. The body is weaker than other Imperial Stouts; good balanced flavor of roasted and nutty malts, with some chocolate; also the hopping shows its good qualities; the final is balanced, moderately resiny; overall the sweetness is very limited; hints of wood and coffee, tar.
Not very Imperial, not very Stout (more a strong Brown Ale), but it’s an excellent beer that grows into you.

375 ml bottle from World Market. Nose is chocolate, tobacco, and tiny hints of coffee and oak. Black with a small tan head. Flavor is lightly bitter with a little white pepper and some tobacco. OK but not a very appetizing BA stout.

Bottle from Colonial Spirits. Pours a solid dark brown/black color with a decent sized creamy off white head that persists forever. Smells of chocolate and caramel with a light roastiness and a hint of vanilla. Dark pitted fruits and a bit of grape skin round out the nose. This smells more like a sweet or a milk stout than an imperial. The flavor is lots of caramel and chocolate maltiness with bits of vanilla and pitted fruits. There is a vinous component and a hint of wood and alcohol as this warms. Medium to thick body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a creamy smooth mouthfeel. Not exactly what I was thinking of when I bought this but it was a nice sipper just the same.
