Tasting Notes

Moa Imperial Stout is a very strong, bold upfront and rich offering of a famous beer style. Aged with French Oak, this beer not only displays coffee and mocha charters but also some sweet and spicy notes. A tannin like finish and an oak induced mellow bitterness makes it a serious stout. Moa Imperial Stout is best served just below room temperature in a tulip glass.

Opaque black - brown beer, big pale tan head. Light dry palate. Dry and mellow dark malt.Touches of cream, toffee and roast. Just a very light trace of red wine. Bubblegum ester streak seems out of place. Finishes dry. A but dry and could have done with a stronger barrel presence.

375 ml bottle. Pours black with full light tan head. Aromas of ash, black coffee, sweet chocolate, and heavily roasted malts. Flavors of sweet black coffee, light vanilla and chocolate, and roasted barley. Quite a light mouthfeel for a stout and high carbonation. Hot.

On tap at Hay Merchant. Pours a very dark brown with medium creamy tan head that lasts awhile. The aroma is strong roast, oak, and dark chcolate. Medium mouthfeel with sweet roasted malt, chocolate, oak and light smoke with lingering dry finish. Very good.

Bottle pour to snifter. Very interesting and nothing like I expected. A mild, chocolate/coffee taste and smooth on the palate . . . like a milk stout. No way does this go down like an high ABV. I am sure the wine barrel influences the taste, but I can’t put my finger on it.
