Proper tree ripened apples, local boysenberries bought direct from the grower and… nothing else. This ain’t no lolly water! Slow, wild fermentation of Jonagold apples, together with a year long maturation, have created a cider that’s fruity and bright. Add whole, aromatic Riwaka Choice boysenberries (yes we are specific about the berry variety we use), and the result is a delicious cider oozing with berry fragrance.

12oz can from Covenhoven in BK. The new & interesting on the tap list was stronger than the shelf stock this day, but I did find one unique tick. Ommegang anniversary glass. Pours out the color of Beaujolais. That not quite deep enough color to be purple or raspberry. Still thin enough to see through. This boysenberry cider smells quite a lot like black raspberry. Little bit of earth, little bit of strawberry jam, lots of skin from all kinds of fruit. Taste is refreshingly light on sugar & strong on fruit & tannins. Thin, slightly sparkly body. An intense dark berry flavor with all the right acidity & a slight kick of lingering bitterness. Now, it is a bit sweet, but it’s cut off by a cranberry-like tartness flush to the end. Apple could be stronger, but it’s there, in more obvious ways than a box of cran-apple Juicy Juice. Really enjoyed this.

Can shared in our van. Almost clear dark red with soft dark pink fizz. Light tart green apple, boysenberries (though I’ve never actually had one), soft tart red currants, apple peel, soft grass. Almost medium sour, under medium sweet and light bitter. Light bodied with sparkly carbonation. Nice!

Poured at Shelton Festival, dark ruby with no head. The aroma is strong berries and oak. Medium body, jammy berry, light oak, nice dry finish, very good.

500ml bottle from Hop Burns & Black. 2014 vintage 5.2%. Deep red colour, short-lived pinkish foam head and aroma of sweet apple, fruity berry. Taste is apple, sweet and with a sourish edge, plus berries, boysenberry, blackcurrant, citric. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi-dry tart and sweetish finish. Nicely drinkable.

Bottle. Pours a deep clear ruby red with a white head that starts and remains at the edges. Aroma has a good amount of sweet apple with a touch of acid and some underlying boysenberry. Flavor has a combination of sweet apple and boysenberry with a bit of an acidic bite.
