Straffe Hendrik Heritage is a special variety of the Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel, as it is a one year oak barrel aged beer. The beer is brewed in autumn and is only available in a limited edition.
The taste and fragrance of the beer are very complex and evolve through the years.
The tannin from the barrels blends exquisitely with the special malts in the beer.
The combination of the spiciness and bitterness of the quadrupel with the subtle taste of wine and wood from the barrels is inimitable. Licorice and dark fruits like raisins, prunes and figs can also be discovered.
With age the beer will develop a hint of porto as well.
EBC 100.

Pour from a 750 ml bottle at Asahiya. Dark brown with lace. Nose is vanilla, oak, treacle, a touch of vinegar, brandy, vanilla, chocolate. Pretty nicely balanced and interesting, seems a bit acetic, but that could be the Armagnac. The oak and brandy some though nicely.

Bottle split at Cotts Convention III, thanks to Daniel, 20/05/17. Rich mahogany brown with a decent beige covering. Nose is tangy dark fruit rinds, sweet malt, wood, caramel, mellow barrel. Taste comprises burnt toffee, fruit loaf, caramel, spice, biscuit, mellow Armagnac. Medium plus body, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a kiss of booze. A well balanced and quaffable quad ... another one from this session fully deserving of its top 50 style slot.

End of November, Odense quickie. Deep red chestnut with a lasting off-white head. Aroma of red berries, malt and oak. Sweet malty and fruity flavour with berries, especially sweet cherry and a lot of oak. Great tannins to balance the sweetness.

Sampled from 0.75 l bottle, 2015 vintage. Clear, dark reddish brown with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity and minimally sourish-funky aroma of caramel, molasses, raisins, red fruits and oak. Moderately sweet, malty, moderately fruity and a little sourish-funky taste of caramel, molasses, raisins, prunes, red fruits and oak, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, slightly tart, woody-dry finish. Medium to full body, rather effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Very nice!
