Straffe Hendrik Heritage is a special variety of the Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel, as it is a one year oak barrel aged beer. The beer is brewed in autumn and is only available in a limited edition.
The taste and fragrance of the beer are very complex and evolve through the years.
The tannin from the barrels blends exquisitely with the special malts in the beer.
The combination of the spiciness and bitterness of the quadrupel with the subtle taste of wine and wood from the barrels is inimitable. Licorice and dark fruits like raisins, prunes and figs can also be discovered.
With age the beer will develop a hint of porto as well.
EBC 100.

Big bottle, bought in Brugge in 2017 I think, as we go back to Brugge in 2 days, I thought it was a good time to crack this beauty. Pours a clear chestnut brown, delightful firm cream head. Aroma is raisins, plum, marzipan, dark fruits and caramel. Taste is sublime, plum, raisins, light caramel, sweet, some barrel, light grapes, wood, lots of complexity. A fabulous Quad.

Corked bottle. Dark amber color. Raisin, armagnac in the aroma. Dry flavor with dried fruit, oak, armagnac, grapes. Matured. Totally different from the 2017.

Bottle shared at Cotteridge Convention 2017 - cheers all! Pours clear amber with a creamy tan head. The nose has some woody tang about it, old leather, berries. Light to medium sweet flavour, plenty of booze, stewed apples, light toffee. Medium to full bodied with lively, massaging carbonation. Warming finish, more ripe apple and aged berries. Good stuff.

Almost clear deep red - amber beer, good pale tan head. Smooth airy palate, softish, reasonable fine carbonation. Fluffy malts, a light creamy sweetness, trace of toffee. Good fruity Armangac, soft. Nice light cherrry streak. Whisper of wood. Airy finish. Satisfyingly Armangac but also fruity and easy drinking.

Aged on armagnac. Well carbonated, bit too much for me. Flavor has the sweet and malty characters of the base, combined with wood and dry armagnac, and quite a lot of acidity from the oak. Lovely, complex and smooth.

2015 vintage, 75 cl bottle served in Westvleteren XII small glass. Pours clear and crisp liver brown with red shades. Tan head is thick but short-lingering. Aroma is intense and complex: red berries, a fantastic hint of lambic beer: cider, fermenting bread dough; caramel, moroccan leather, blackberry, violet, chocolate, ripe banana, sandal, prunes, Morello cherry... Taste starts sweetish but immediately shifts to lambic tart. Texture is velvety, with nice fizziness. Very long finish with no bitterness whatsoever. Fantastic.
