Very dark brown, with a bunch of floaters, and a small, creamy brown head. Smells woody, some red wine. Decent body, some carbonation. Taste is quite odd, savoury and very bitter somehow, with plenty of tannins. Unbalanced. Very boozy, biting alcohol. Meh

Bottle. Color: Black, very thin light brown head. Aroma: Coffee, dark roasted malt, booze, hints of red wine. Taste: Dark roasted, almost burnt malt, coffee, notes of dark chocolate, hints of red wine. More boozy and bitter, grape skin and seeds, at the finish. Bitter palate and slightly warming mouthfeel. Over medium body, under average carbonation. The dark roasted/ burnt malt is a bit overhelming, I was hoping for stronger signs of the barrel ageing.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 33B/20C). Bottle 33 cl - Batch L1IS160117. AROMA: medium roasted malt aroma (coffee), followed by medium-high alcohol notes (almost solvent). mild wood barrel with wine notes on the background. APPEARANCE: very dark brown to black color and opaque. medium brown head, moussy, with good retention. slight leg formation. TASTE: initial medium-low red wine barrel notes, followed by medium-high to high roasted malt flavor with an almost burnt character. medium-high bitterness with an almost dry and roasted to burnt finish. PALATE: medium-high body with medium carbonation. high alcohol warmth. slight astrinency. OVERALL: a barrel aged imperial stout where the roasted notes overwhelm the barrel characteristics.
