330ml bottle. Cloudy chestnut colour with small, frothy, fading, off-white head. Smoky and earthy, herbal aroma, notes of ham, smoked eel, smoked beechwood, a minimally nutty and caramel malty touch as well. Taste is sweet-ish caramel malty, smoky and earthy herbal, floral hoppy overtones. Minimally creamy, watery texture, smooth and soft palate, fine and soft carbonation. Nice composition with nice herbal-floral touch - pretty decent.

Stark rauchiger Beginn. 10/9/10/9/11/9

0.33 l bottle from 'Bierothek', best before April 2022. Clear, ruby with a thin, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, quite smoky, a little fruity aroma of molasses, nuts, raisins and smoked ham. Quite sweet, malty, gently smoky and minimally fruity taste of molasses, nuts, raisins, light chocolate, smoked ham and maybe traces of incense, followed by a short, moderately bitter, gently smoky finish. Medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Tasty Rauchbock, the incense is extremely subdued though, way less prominent than in Freigeist's Spiritus Sanctus unfortunately. Still a good beer.

Bottle. Hazy amber chestnut, low brown foam. Pleasant heather smoked malt aroma. Medium light body - fizzy and oily sticky in one. Nice dense roasted and smoked malt notes, blueberry muffin, citrus jam, burn cake, smoke, fresh hop finish. The texture needs to be fixed, otherwise this is great!
