One of the brewery's flagship beers, launched in 1986 in the typical lacquered white bottles and named after the dragon statue on top of the Ghent belfry tower.

Bij een dergelijk imposant symbool dat al meer dan 6 eeuwen standhoudt, hoort een al minstens even indrukwekkend bier. Zoals de draak aan de top van de stad prijkt, behoort Gulden Draak al jaren tot de wereldtop van de bieren. Het is een donkere tripel, wat het op zich al een uitzonderlijk bier maakt, maar de complexe smaak met toetsen van caramel, gebrande mout en koffie maakt het uniek. Kortom, het bier is zijn naam waardig.
Voor de nagisting wordt gebruik gemaakt van een wijngist die bepalend is voor de weergaloze smaak en die zorgt voor de langdurige smaakevolutie (= levend bier). Hoe ouder het bier wordt, hoe meer aroma het krijgt en hoe voller de smaak en de kleur worden. Het is dus zeker de moeite waard om enkele grote flessen bij te houden en te laten rijpen gedurende vele jaren.
Kleur: robijnrood, donker
Alcoholvolume: 10,5% - 23° Plato
Aroma: zoet, licht gebrande mout en koffie
Smaak: zeer vol mondgevoel met toetsen van chocolade, karamel
Afdronk: bitterzoet en lang
Ideale schenktemperatuur: tussen 8° en 12° Celsius
Gulden Draak laat zich makkelijk drinken als aperitief, dessert of gewoon als u even tijd maakt om te genieten. Deze “gerstewijn” harmonieert uitstekend bij en in stoofpotjes en bij een Gentse stoverij in het bijzonder. Het geeft ook een meerwaarde aan sauzen bij rood vlees zoals een bordelaise en is ook uitermate geschikt als dessertbier, vooral bij donkere chocolade.

Draft at the Belgium booth in Epcot. Dark, opaque, red color, with a smaller, foamy, beige head. The aroma is cinnamon, orange peel, light tannins, and caramel. Musty bitterness, with a malty sweetness. Medium body, grainy, and syrupy. Complex and balanced. Quite good.

Red color. Sweet candy flavor with a spicy finish and alcohol burn. A little stronger flavor than most triples.

2023 bottle from Livonia Liquor. Pours a mostly clear copper to chestnut color with a full two fingers of beige head that dissipates. Great lacing down the glass. Aromas of spiced date, clove and bubblegum aromas. Some candi sugar as it warms up. Palate is very similar, warming alcohol but not boozy. Light peppery hops and spiced date, apricot and toasted flaming banana on the finish.

Bottle from Lidl, Wycombe. Chestnut brown with a large, lasting beige head and a middling fizz. Light banana up front, then in your face alcohol and a lot of cheap brown bread. There's a touch of date and toffee in the finish, but mainly this is a glass of boozy loaf. Subtle it ain't, but it's pleasant enough.

330mL bottle. Pours deep amber with large beige head. Aroma has notes of caramel, malts, cloves and other spices, dates and other dark fruit. Flavour also big on the caramel malts, dark fruit, and spices. Solid carbonation. Fantastic beer.

Pours dark red to light brown, a bit cloudy. Medium sized (pretty impressive for the abv) fluffy off-white head, recedes quite quickly but leaves nice lacing. Quite good intensity in a decently deep aroma: brown sugar, caramel, maybe a hint of honey, fruity notes (red/dried fruits, plum), perhaps the slightest spicy hint, some alcohol warmth. Taste notes follow the aroma closely with quite good intensity but so so definition. A light vinous feel. Quite clear alcohol feel, brings some nice warmth but feels maybe a tad too high. Pretty high sweetness in both taste and aftertaste, balanced enough by attenuation. Fruity aftertaste. Quite dense in body, perhaps a bit less than i expected for the abv, average fine bubbled carbonation. Semi full, borderline creamy with a bit of vividness from the carbonation. Overall quite pleasant, but far from the finest or richest BSDA examples.

barva tmave hneda zakalena. Pena husta a dobre drzi. Telo vyssi plnost. Riz vyssi stredni. Vune slad, karamel, trocha nejakeho ovoce. Chut sladova karamelova. Konec dlouhy sladko suchy hrejivy. Horkost nizsi stredni, ale existujici. Dobre upijedlo po palacinkach.
