One of the brewery's flagship beers, launched in 1986 in the typical lacquered white bottles and named after the dragon statue on top of the Ghent belfry tower.

Bij een dergelijk imposant symbool dat al meer dan 6 eeuwen standhoudt, hoort een al minstens even indrukwekkend bier. Zoals de draak aan de top van de stad prijkt, behoort Gulden Draak al jaren tot de wereldtop van de bieren. Het is een donkere tripel, wat het op zich al een uitzonderlijk bier maakt, maar de complexe smaak met toetsen van caramel, gebrande mout en koffie maakt het uniek. Kortom, het bier is zijn naam waardig.
Voor de nagisting wordt gebruik gemaakt van een wijngist die bepalend is voor de weergaloze smaak en die zorgt voor de langdurige smaakevolutie (= levend bier). Hoe ouder het bier wordt, hoe meer aroma het krijgt en hoe voller de smaak en de kleur worden. Het is dus zeker de moeite waard om enkele grote flessen bij te houden en te laten rijpen gedurende vele jaren.
Kleur: robijnrood, donker
Alcoholvolume: 10,5% - 23° Plato
Aroma: zoet, licht gebrande mout en koffie
Smaak: zeer vol mondgevoel met toetsen van chocolade, karamel
Afdronk: bitterzoet en lang
Ideale schenktemperatuur: tussen 8° en 12° Celsius
Gulden Draak laat zich makkelijk drinken als aperitief, dessert of gewoon als u even tijd maakt om te genieten. Deze “gerstewijn” harmonieert uitstekend bij en in stoofpotjes en bij een Gentse stoverij in het bijzonder. Het geeft ook een meerwaarde aan sauzen bij rood vlees zoals een bordelaise en is ook uitermate geschikt als dessertbier, vooral bij donkere chocolade.

Looks the part, smells the part and tastes the part. Tick, tick, tick. Pours a lovely chestnut brown with a ruby hue, a big bubbly beige head, and a boozy aroma of sweet caramel and sherry. Medium carbonation gives a tingle on the tongue, there’s a light, cereal malt backbone hiding underneath the sweet candied fruit and caramel taste, with sherry or perhaps brandy flavours giving it an edge

AROMA: Sweet with scents of brown sugar, toffee, alcohol, spices, and malt. The aromas don't hit you over the head, like some other Triple ales I've had, but you won't have to search for them either.
APPEARANCE: Pours a semi-translucent, dark amber color with a huge, fluffy, dirty-tan head that dissipates slowly with nice lacing.
TASTE: Very sweet with flavors of dark fruits, malt, and caramel. As I sip it, I am initially inundated with pure sugar sweetness. But as I let it sit on my tongue and gently slide down the back of my tongue, the other flavors start to take center stage and put on quite the performance!
MOUTHFEEL: Full-bodied with a creamy texture and slightly-higher-than-average carbonation.
OVERALL: A very nice beer that is quite sweet. The only thing I can think of that this might pair well with is game meat. Other than that, due to its sweetness, I would just consider this a dessert beer ... and a yummy one at that! ... that should be savored slowly.

En kompleks øl som både er framfusende og temmelig ubeskjedent smaksrik, men samtidig har en underlig balanse som gir øldrikkeren stadig nye vinkler og opplevelser under samlingen. Helt klart et øl man ikke blir ferdig med etter bare én smaking.

330 ml bottle. Pours umclear cloudy dark brown with a huge fluffy head. Dried figs and dates, dark chocolate, cassis, dark cherry, toffee, citrus fruits, hoppy notes, liqurice. Malty sweetness, some dry bitterness. Full bodied, oily texture, soft to lively carbonated, dry malty finish, alcohol well hidden. Great dark Tripel, very balanced, very drinkable.

330ml bottle from Lidl. Copper brown with a small off-white head with excellent retention. Aroma of malts, yeast, sweetness, berries, touch of spice. Full bodied but overly carbonated for me. Taste is superb, moreish caramel malts, sweet, spice, fruity yeast, berries, some stone fruits. Finish is moderate bitterness with the malts still flowing through and a warming alcohol. Lovely beer, its only the carbonation I can fault. I like my darker beers to have a nice soft carbonation to compliment the complexity of flavours otherwise I feel it distracts from it. On the other hand I may not get yeasty Belgium beers yet and the process required, its all very new to me still.
