Imperial Stout + Chocolate + Raspberries
An imperial stout brewed with raspberries and Valrhona cocoa nibs. Rich flavours of chocolate and fruit collide with boozy heat.
Building on our repertoire of wild stouts we have combined our love of locally foraged fruits with our penchant for sweet dark beers. The combination of fruit and chocolate is always amazing and what better way to combat the cold nights of the changing seasons than with a rich warming stout?

Strong fruit stout flavoured with cocoa nibs, thanks Pieter for sharing the can. Thick and mousy, frothy, mocha-beige head over a jet black beer. Aroma of indeed (lots of) actual ripe red raspberries, raspberry jam even but not in an industrial way, Ersatz chocolate, toffee, cappuccino, the raspberry filling in a chocolate bar (a Belgian invention, by the way), hazelnut. Sweet onset with sourish edge, very raspberry jam-like, even hinting at ripe black cherries and brambleberries, softishly carbonated, smooth oily body; toffeeish, caramelly and eventually very chocolatey middle with this 'raspberry filling' continuing, developing bitter coffeeish roastiness in the end - so evolving from raspberry flavours to bitter black chocolate and coffee flavours. In that sense, a layered, very well-balanced fruit stout of the sweeter kind, a liquid 'praline' delivering what it promises. Mission accomplished, if somewhat of a one-trick pony for me - lacking a bit of complexity, but as a postmodern 'designer' beer focusing on its own goal, there is no denying that this is very well done. If you like desserty, sweet fruit stouts, that is.

Can from Gedeelde Vreugde. Pours hazy black with a slowly thinning, frothy, tan head. Aroma of raspberry sauce, chocolate chips, straciatella ice cream, fruited praliné, toast & jam, Maraschino. Taste has sweet raspberry, strawberry & jam, solid chocolatey base with a dash of vanilla, sour berries & faint bitter toast underneath; tart, yet malty finish, soft earthy hops, lingering red fruit & chocolate chips. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Very elegant combination of flavours.

330ml can - Pours a deep dark brown colour with an average sized frothy beige head that settled. Aroma is malty, dark chocolate and rich ripe fruit. A moderately sweet to sweet taste, plenty of chocolate and roasted flavours with a tart raspberry finish. Nice.

Rocky tan head stayed on a rich dark mahogany coloured still body. Raspberry & chocolate aroma. Medium bodied, creamy on the palate thinning out to leave a dry back. Dark chocolate, overpowering raspberry, & malt tastes. Alcohol is very well hidden.

Bottle. Dark amber body, close to black, practically without any head. Aroma has fark malt and chocolate. Taste is quite sweet, dark malt, chocolate, raspberries and hint of toast. Medium body and average aftertaste. Drinkable but far from the best beer from this fine brewery.

Bottle. Black pour. Aroma of cheap chocolate, raspberry, malt and fruit syrup. Flavor has sweet raspberry, milk chocolate, malt, fruit syrup and some cherry. Body is thin. The chocolate and raspberry feel a bit artificial, as a simple additive. Not their best.
