An Imperial Porter matured on cacao nibs and chilli. Subtly warming heat from the chilli is balanced with the soft chocolate notes from the cacao.

Panda at home thanks to Colin. A thick oily dark brown black coloured pour with a halo of dark tan head. Aroma is big raw oak, brown brandy snap sugars, grapey funk, brandy, warming alcohol. Flavour is composed of big oily smooth dark roast, grapey vinous ruit, raw oak, vanilla, charred wood, cakey malts, hides the alcohol very well,. lingering bitter liquorice. Palate is semi sweet, oily, rounded, moderate carbonation. lingering boozy fruit cake.

Bottle at home, from Buxton online, 31/01/21. Black with a decent tan cap that soon collapses to a swirl and veers edgeward. Nose is dark malts, barrel tones, dark chocolate, spice, roasted tones, toffee, fruit cake. Taste comprises dark chocolate, balanced chilli spike, dark malts, molasses, charr, dried fruits, chocolate dipped raisins, spice. Full bodied, fine carbonation, drying close spiked with a balanced rising boost. Solid BA impy ... modest chilli ... good barrel tones.

Bottle. Buxton online shop. Oily pour. Sits nearly black. Fine ring of tan head. Nicely leggy. Nose has robust chocolate malt. Treacle. Bonfire toffee. Old wood. Bourbon (no idea what this is aged in). The chilli is completely lost on me. Taste is rich and sweet, with full on, woody, slightly boozy bitterness. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Fine carbonation. Drinks so easy for the hefty ABV. Lingering bitterness to finish. Lip sticking goodness.

Bottle picked up from Buxton brewery webshop, Buxton, Derbyshire, UK. We had Pasta Carbonara for tea tonight which was very nice, listening to Tom Ravenscroft sitting in for Marc Riley on 6Music Thusday 19th November 2020. Pours dark brown almost black with with a small tan head. Wow lots and lots of chocolate, it's also got a boozy edge (mostly on the nose). Big, substantial mouthfeel, creamy, some vanilla, really thick in the mouth, very easy supping beer for the abv. Huge amounts of rich chocolate, a little warmth from the chilli, this is great.
