An IPA that maintains the classic bitterness and robustness of the style but with the addition of beautifully fruity American hops and all at an ABV that can be enjoyed all night (4.1% in cask and keg and 5.0% in bottle). Impressively strong and full-flavoured for its ABV, this is a piece of classic and bold Butcombe engineering!

Available permanently in keg and bottle and periodically in cask.

Dark gold color, perfectly clear. Nice head, with medium retention. American hops in aroma, but the overall effect is not very intensive. Wet rag hints. Medium bitterness, well balanced with sweetness.

On tap at the Yard, Bristol 25/4/2015. Deep amber with a thin, white, head and slight carbonation. A malty beer, with some hedgerow fruit, caramel and moderately bitter finish. Ok.

*Old rating from 2010. Sweetish-malty, slightly floral, but a bit too sweetish. But nice and round.

Bottle at home split with Sarah, picked up from Waitrose online. Light amber / golden coloured pour with a lasting thin off white head. Aroma is nutty malt, some caramel, sweet orange, bit of vanish / solvent and a little green apple ester. Some hay on the nose as well. Flavour is composed of dark burnt sugars, caramel, nutty malts and semi sweet sugars. Palate is semi sweet, moderate carbonation. Pretty standard fare.

Aroma is malt and cereal, could not detect hops... Not promising for an IPA. Taste is lightly bitter with cereal, and butterscotch tones, with a lightly pine finish. Mouthfeel is nice and rich.

Sweet aroma with caramel malt. very smooth and easy to drink. Quite a lot of toasty malt in the flavour. Roasted bittersweet aftertaste.

Smooth textured light copper coloured ale with a disappearing bubbly head. Has a good identifiably pale ale aroma with a small fruitiness. It’s more stubborn in its flavour and has a graininess. Slips down the palate with ease.
