Sinister Kid is named after the unofficial mascot of our Congress Street brewery: a long-forgotten, dismembered doll unearthed in construction rubble. We dusted off Sinister Kid and breathed new life into her, installing a new pipe leg and a wire arm. We quickly found a new use for her evil appearance: keeping an ever-present, protective watch over the first floor of our Fort Point restaurant and brewery.

This year, we've crafted what we consider to be our most complex variations of Sinister Kid to date. We took the base Belgian Strong Ale recipe, fermented it with our native New England yeast culture for two years in both bourbon and wine barrels, then transferred the beer to our oak foeders to condition on a variety of fruit. The six resulting blends are intricate expressions of wild yeast, time, and fruit all coming together harmoniously in the bottle.

Wild Sinister Kid: Blackberry Cabernet is a blend consisting of 80% bourbon barrel-aged beer and 20% wine barrel-aged beer conditioned on whole blackberries and cabernet grapes. A deep, ruby brown pour leads to mouth-watering aromas of blackberry juice, dried fig, fresh raspberry, and raisin. Secondary notes of cherry pit and oaky vanillin add a welcomed complexity. A touch of sweetness is countered by moderate acidity, resulting in a deftly balanced drinking experience.

Draught at Fort Point, 7/28/21.
Heavily hazy, maroon-to-cranberry with chocolate highlights. Off-white head to ring.
Wow that's a lot of sherry. Blackberry breaks through, thankfully, brightening things with juicy cabernet softly in the mix. No booze and a comforting maltiness of wheat/oat-like character helping to soak up the acidity.
Not thick or too sour. Wow thats lovely. Sherry, blackberry and grape share space nicely and it's soft and sumptuously malted with great attenuation and bright, juicy acidity combining with earthy, grassy, floral sherry on the finish to provide a wonderful complexity. It's definitely sherry-forward but I don't think it dominates. You are going to have to like sherry to enjoy this but if you do, it's a knockout and sublime.

Bottle. Aroma of vineus red fruit, oak, tartness, cherry, vanilla, caramel and blackberry. Taste has rich zesty blackberry, oaky tartness, cherry, vineus red grape, cherry vanilla, acidic sourness, dry funk and lots of zesty funky fruit in the finish. Very good.
