Silver Champion Golden Ale, Champion Beer of Britain Competition
Explorer is light and refreshing, suffused with the aromas of a grapefruit grove. The citrus attack will burst on your palate as the hops deliver their fruity bitterness.
Available in 500ml bottle and in keg in selected Wetherpoon outlets.
Pale Ale malt is used to provide the biscuity backbone of this blonde beer but it’s the hops that give it its personality. We use two American hops, grown in the Yakima Valley in Washington. These hops, called Columbus and Chinook, add wonderful grapefruit flavours to the beer.

30-03-06 Picked up a bopttle at Morrisons. Forgot to chill as recommended, but I did re-seal and stick the second half of the bottle in the fridge and had a bit later it was no better really. Light amber coloured unremarkable blonde, some bittereness, some citrus fine but that’s about it, expected better from Adnams.

(Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm) Colour is golden. Very nice nose with fresh, grassy hops and citrus (grapefruit, lemon). Fresh hoppy, somewhat bready and slightly sweetish taste dominated by hops (citrus: grapefruit, lemon) and a dry bitter finish. Very summery with a characteristic taste of American hops. Refreshing and nice.

Bottle. Caramel coloured beer with a fizzy head. The aroma is plainly dry and the flavour is caramel, slightly dry and off bitter. Overall a fairly standard beer.

500ml bottle from Morrisons. Copper colour with lasting off white head. Yeasty and citric hop nose with some sweet caramel. Soft in mouth, bit of candy sugar, some more caramel and more citrus hop on the end with some lemon and yeast. The hops are quite zesty. Certainly better than the cask version I had. 3.2/5 Re-rate bottle in Tesco, certainly more hoppy, more pronounced grapefruit and other citrus fruits. Something that I have actually chosen to buy for the train ride home rather than having to put up with something.

Copper color. Light aroma, disappears quickly. Medium structure, strong herbal hop taste, hop resins. The bitterness develops more at the end, hoppy, peculiar. Refreshing and good.

[Cask at Charlie’s Bar, Copenhagen] A hazy orange beer with a small white head. The aroma is sweet hoppy and malty, while the flavor is very hoppy and grassy - which makes it a very refreshing beer.
