I think this is somewhere between a bitter and an 80 shilling and perhaps closer to the 80. It’s well executed with soft sweet malt notes and a degree of smoothness from start to finish. Good beer.

Bottle from friend, many thanks Peter. Amber color with medium off-white head. Floral, fruity aroma with notes of honey. Fruity taste with caramel, fruity hops. Very light bitterness in fruity finish. Good.

On tap at Akkurat, April 2013. (sold as Pennant Ale) Amber with a medium white head. Aroma and taste of malt, some bread, caramel and light fruit. Some nuts in the finish. An ok one.

12 oz bottle. Pours a darkish red/brown with light head. Aromas of malts and light brown sugar. Flavors of roasted malt, light caramel, light dough, bitter resin. Nothing special

Bottle. Light amber color with small foamy beige head, doughy aroma, fresh citrusy taste with slightly metallic finish, low carbonation. It would be a very nice ale except for the metallic taste at the end.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before March 2013. Pours slightly hazy orange amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of caramel, toast, brown bread, pine, floral, citrus, grass, and herbal hops. Nice and pleasant aromas with good strength and balance. Taste of carmael, toast, pine, floral, grass, brown bread, citrus peel, light nuttiness, and herbal hops. Light floral bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, pine, floral, brown bread, citrus, grass, light nuttiness, and herbal on the finish for a bit. Very nice flavor robustness and balance of malt/hop flavors; with zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and smooth mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very good English pale ale. Nice balance and robustness of flavors; and very smooth to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

12fl.oz. Dark amber colour with a beige head with good duration and lacing. Aroma is lightly hoppy with metal hints. Flavour is slightly toasty, caramel and bittery. Short final. Carbonation and body are medium.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Best before March of 2012. Pours a light amber with almost a half finger of white head. Aroma of caramel, green apple and light citrus hops. Taste is light bitter and light sour. Green apple and citrus. Light bodied with a somewhat slick texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, not bad. I would like to try a fresh one just to see the difference.
