A dry oatmeal stout, named after that enduring feature of the Lake District landscape, the dry stone wall and the skilled craftsmen who build them. Aromas of chocolate and coffee, complex rich deep flavours from a blend of 7 malts, moderate bitterness and a long dry finish make Dry Stone Stout a satisfying and warming black beer.

500ml bottle from LCB. Black pour with small beige to tanned head. Aroma is clean but not subdued with roasted malt, oat, cream, raisin, plum. Taste is the same with a dose of milk chocolate. Distinctive flavours running through. Nice balance. Smooth finish. Very good example of the style; tasty.

Cask at the Pup and Duckling, Solihull. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a lasting frothy tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, liqourice. The flavour is moderate liqourice bitter, with a smooth, rich, roasty, light caramel, chocolate, light dry ashtray, liqourice bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

330ml bottle; BBE Jan 2021. Poured into a thistle shaped glass at home on 10th Apr 2020. Nice dark brown/black body, tanned topping, looked good in the glass. Roasted toasted maltiness in both the aroma and taste, typical Oatmeal Stout attributes and easy to drink.

Thin spotty head left a cover on a near black still body. Coal, burnt & roasted aroma. Medium bodied, smooth on the palate with a clean back. Malt, smoke, tobacco, roasted, nutty & berry tastes. Nice one.

Stout with a thin head, a bit of hop in the smell. More bitter hop than I'd expect from an oatmeal stout but there's still a smoothness there along with coffee and dark chocolate and a lasting toasty finish.
