Parabolas of past has been aged solely in Bourbon Barrels. Parabola 2021 has a subtle twist being that same base beer was matured in equal thirds bourbon, rye whiskey and wheated whiskey , then blended together. Brewers associate rye as bringing really great black pepper notes to beer, along with a rye bread character. The wheated bourbon barrels add a sweeter mouthfeel, and a cereal grain character which comes through as well. It just adds a layer of depth and complexity even deeper than Parabola already had.
Editor's Note: this Parabola gets its own entry because of the different barrel treatment: three different barrels instead of the usual Elijah Craig barrel.

FLN, dry chocolate, spicy rye, I should have cellared this a bit but still solid barrel and spice.

A black beer, a head is medium and yellowish beige. Aroma is brilliant, liquorice, salt liquorice, dried fruits, some whiskey, richness of malts, light barrel. Taste has liquorice, dried fruits, prune, dry barrel, richeness of smooth maltyness, salt liquorice, balanced, warming. Full bodied, not stickyness, smooth and enjoyable. Powerful, but also smooth and balanced. Brilliant beer.

12 oz, boxed. Aroma has notes of licorice, wood, vanilla, whiskey, toffee, raisin, dark chocolate. Pours very dark brown to black with a one finger tan head that falls into a ring pretty quickly. Taste is moderately sweet with a moderate to highly bitter edge,

I finally located a second bottle of Parabola 2021 to put into storage so now I can sample the first bottle, mid-summer be damned. Tough competition for the 2021 version, the original Parabola is my top rated imperial stout. And imperial stouts are one of my two favorite styles. Here we go, open up the box, take the bottle out and remove the cap. Pouring into a snifter I determine a dark caramel brown and a top of creamy, light tan, finely bubbled foam. The scent is thick enough to slice, chocolate fudge, whole what bread and alcohol. And the taste, very nice. Bakers chocolate, vanilla, dark cherries, grain, leather and booze. It starts moderately sweet and evolves to a decent, finishing bitterness. First class, best beer I’ve had in a while.

Black with offwhite head. Sweet deep roasted chocolate malts, chocotoff, booze, dark tea, whiskey, bourbon. Full body, soft carb. Intense and heavy, very tasty.

Bottle thanks to sjogro. Very nice, but again it's very boozy, way more so than I seem to remember it.

On tap at Firestone Walker - Buellton, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma is rich, bringing out smoky whiskey, bourbon, some spicy black pepper, and earthy roast. Flavour is on the spicier and smokier side than previous Parabolas, with a smoky whiskey character, earthy rye character, and light bourbon. Lots of booze and woody barrels, with lower residual sweetness than usual for the style. Lovely.

Bottle picked up from Beer Republic webshop nr Breda, Netherlands. Consumed at home Saturday 5th June 2021. We had Chicken Tikka Kebabs and Raita and also Halloumi and Kebabs with a Mango and Tomato Relish, really lovely. Listening to Hamish Hawk - From Zero to One. Pours black with a creamy textured tan head. Oh my this is super rich, super indulgent, wow it tastes like a million dollars. Don't know much about the whiskies involved but they add a nice touch to the aroma, along with vanilla and chocolate. Chocolate also in the flavour department, some Black Forest Gateaux (that's the cherries in the description then), whiskies adding their thing. Wow this has a huge body, some bitterness, coffee, rich roasted malts, a little burnt edge, warming, really thick in the mouth. Stunning, simply stunning.
