Re-rate on 01/02/18 at Au Bar. No astringency this time. Getting the usual.toffee and nuts as well as a lovely plum/prune note so would go 3.7 this time. Averaged therefore at 3.2 this time. Previous rating on 21/08/12 = 5+4+5+2+11 = 2.7 On tap @ the Haymarket. Pours dark amber with a nice head. The nose has toffee and cream with a little bit of raisin in there. The taste is a little bit cardboardy and the malt on the finish is astringent. The palate is medium bodied with a medium thick textjure and a slightly astringent finish, unfortunately. Overall, this is the worst beer I’ve had from this brewery, so I must assume something has not been carried out correctly by the pub, so will need to re-rate.

Cask Aitken Fount @ Diggers, Edinburgh 260712
Caramel brown, clear, creamy head, good lacing
Aroma - dark caramel malts, quite rich sweet dark malts, light hops
Taste - caramel malts, malty, some fruit dark malt, touch of bready malt, hint of spicy hop, nice easy drinking beer, bit of toasted malts, this soft understated beer really works for me
Palate - soft carb, medium body. Finish as main flavour
Overall - This is the best 80/- i’ve had...way better than Caledonians.

Bright brick amber. Caramelly nose with diacetyl in there as well. Soft caramel character. This is a very mellow beer. Sweet finish. I can see where they’re going but it’s not my favourite.

Cask at the Halfway House, Edinburgh. Described to me as “A classic heavy” at the bar. Medium dark reddish brown color. Full-flavored, rounded, and fruity. Relatively sweet, but pleasantly so. There is a nice dryness coming from both hops and roasting. Good dry finish. I like it.
