Bottle at home. Mailorder from Beerhawk. 10/06/16. Deep and dark but let down by the lack of any head. The coriander comes through in the sweet aroma - reminds me of something else but annoyingly I cannot think what, some sort of fruit drink/mulled wine perhaps.. A sweet beer with a bitter kick. Unoffensive palate. A nice beer. Not sure whether I’d want to drink multiple pints.

Black. Creamy head. The flavour of coriander is very prominent in the beginning. Qualitively good but feels out of balance and wrong.

Cask at the live and let live, Cambridge. It pours deep ruby with a small beige head. The nose is sweet liquorice, treacle, toasty, caramel and permanent marker pen. The taste is bitter-sweet, liquorice, treacle, cola cubes, earthy, toast, coriander and medicinal notes with a dry, roasty finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Interesting and good depth. Decent.

Cask gravity at the Watford RFC beer fest. Looks like flat coke, caramel colour with a fleeting cream coloured head. Aroma is odd, smells a bit like cola with light roast and touch of choc. Flavour is sharp roast with a touch of green apple. Some acid lingers in the finish. Palate is medium light with fine carbonation. meh.

On tap at the Barony. Appearance - opaque black with a red chink around the edges. Nose - prunes and alcohol with a chocolate backdrop. Taste - black cherry and some tirimasu gojng on. Maybe Black Forest gateau is more appropriate. Palate - medium to full bodied with a creamy and I’d like to add silky texture. The finish is elegant though. Overall - it was unusual to look at my friends rates and find several lines of notes by cgarvieuk. However Craig’s enthusiasm was well judged. What a lovely beer which has Old World elegance.

Cask at the Sussex Arms, Twickenham Green, 12/01/13. Very dark mahogony brown with a thin off white/tan head that clears to the edge and leaves a film. Good lacing ensues. Nose is dark malts, spice, molasses, leather, liqourice. Taste comprises spice, dark malts, dark fruits, Xmas pudding, touch of mint, liqourice. Medium bodied with soft carbonatin leading to a fruity dry finish. Good stuff!

Chelmsford Beer Festival. Clear dark brown beer, white head. Smooth palate, light and a little dry. A very light touch of dark malts. Mild candy fruit sweetness. A little citrus and tang. Hangs together quite well. Semi dry finish. All right.

Cask @ The Walnut Tree, Leytonstone. Dark red, almost black body with a nice beige head. Mild roasted malt aroma with hint of fruit and caramel. Flavor is light roasted malt, light fruity and moderate bitterness with some caramel. Sorry to say that I didn’t really detect any coriander in aroma nor flavor, actually a shame because I like coriander and a coriander porter seems like a nice idea. Maybe an old cask, I probably never know the answer to that. Pretty nice and quite light version of a porter anyway.

2012-07-10, cask at Lattice House, King’s Lynn, 6-4-7-3-13=33
Brown color; small creamy head. The aroma is mild. The mouthfeel is round. It has a quite good dark caramel flavor with notes of chocolate, correct bitterness, and just a light malt acidity.
Pleasant.

2010-05-16, cask at Charlie’s Pub, Copenhagen, 5-4-6-3-12=30
Dark brown color; small but persistent head. The aroma is initially yeasty, a bit dusty too. The body is medium-thin, but the low carbonation makes up a bit for it; sweetish flavor, caramel and chocolate (this is pleasant), with some spiciness and baking yeast. Correct bitterness. Not in good conditions (too yeasty), but not entirely bad.
