Shed your fears and try this recreation of an ancient psychedelic brew! A combination of life and death, young and old, north and south, beer and wine!
An English Barleywine aged in a 17y.o. used wine barrel which contained "Mavrodaphne", a local sweet wine, Parparousis winery. The English ale absorbed all the goodness that 17 years and the masterful winemaker provided and transcended to another state!

330ml bottle. Cloudy, brown colour with light redd-ish shimmer and small, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, off-white head. Caramel malty, resinous and slightly vinous aroma, yeasty spicy overtones, hints of grape juice, retsina. Taste is oaky, vinous fruity, slightly resinous and alcoholic, some bitter hop, yeasty spicy interludes with a weak touch of marmite, some grape juice induced sweetness; slightly warming, alcoholic finish. Oily to viscous texture, smooth and soft, minimally cloying palate, medium to fine, soft carbonation. Homogeneous, heavy, not overly complex - not exactly my cup of tea.

Bottle courtesy of Kostas, Kykao brewer thanks my friend. Had this at home Wednesday 3rd February 2021, listening to Marc Riley on 6 Music having had Stuffed Aubergines (stuffed with mozzarella, pesto etc) on a tomato sauce, with Mozzarella, Tomato and Basil Salad. Pours dark murky puddle brown with an off white head. Sherry notes, suggesting sweetness, woody elements, a little booziness. Thick in the mouth, surprised by the bitterness which is hidden somewhat by the big sweetness. Fascinating beer, interesting choice of barrel, smooth, a great barley wine.
