This example of the Belgian Farmhouse Ale style began as a final project recipe created by one of Glenn Castelein's brewing students, William Roelens, who named it after his grandson Mauro, who lives in the town of Lauwe. The Alvinne brewers were so impressed by this beer that they added it to their lineup with Roelens' permission.

Bottled. An unclear golden beer with a huge white head. The aroma is very spicy - especially cloves and coriander coming thru. The flavor is acidic and sweet with strong notes of spices - here coriander is the most dominant, but also with light notes of over ripe fruits, leading to a dry and spicy finish. Thanks KimJohansen for sharing.

Bottle. Golden colour with a white head. Aroma is chalk, rubbery, fruit. Flavour is rubbery, malt, chalk, sour, fruit. I think there is something wrong with this one.

Bottle, 33cl. It’s a slightly hazy and a bit pale golden beer wtih a medium-sized white head. Chalky, rubbery nose with fruits and some citrus. The flavor is mostly citrusy, with pale malts and a little hint of rubber. Short finish. Medium body, rather effervescent. Sure off, but still drinkable in a way. Don’t think I would have a bottle on my own though. (090605)

Bottle from Alvinne. Pours hazy pale orange with an ephemeral white head. Very citric aroma. Medium body with near creamy carbonation. Very mild funk, followed by citrus, and then stronger funk. It’s a delight. Finishes astringent/sour/funky/bitter. More or less at the same time. Not sure what the juniper berry is doing, but I’m sure it has some part. I love juniper. And this beer drinks tasty and softly. Great stuff.

Bottle that I picked up from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Belgium. Consumed at West Runton Campsite, North Norfolk. 13-06-09. Pours hazy orange amber colour with white head. Tingly citric aroma, mostly lemon bit yeasty and some sharpness tickling the nostrils. This is soft in the mouth with a good citric bite, touch sour at times with little yeast. Nice stuff. 33cl bottle at 7% ABV from Westholme Stores, Goring. Hazy amber with a huge billowing cream head; rich spicy aroma with coriander and orange; sweet and yeasty, with good malts and some slightly sour fruit; and a dry peppery finish. Very pleasant.
