8th Oct 2012: 500ml bottle, best before 20 Dec 2012. Poured into an ’Old Speckled Hen’ badged vase shaped pint glass. This is the first beer of an IPA tasting session I’m having by myself. Looks good: true amber body, clean, bright and clear, on top a full covering of tight foaming bubbles. The nose is fairly malty for an IPA, where are the hops? Ha, the hops appear in the taste: this is a dry, bitter IPA (for the Uk) with a crisp sharpness and bite to the mouth feel. Well rounded beer for such a low alcohol content, the semi-sweet malts not quiet keeping the lively hops in check and the finish reminding you it’s an IPA you’re drinking. Very pleasant and easy to drink: an ideal start to my evenings entertainment of IPA-ness.

50cl bottle from Tesco. Golden amber with a loose white head; earthy malt aroma; soft textured with a good balance of malt and green hops; and a pleasant light bitterness to finish. This is rather good for a cheap bottled bitter.

Slightly heavier than expected texture, but on the whole a bland IPA with a bland bitterness.

50 cl bottle from a friend. Decent white head. Clear golden/amber pour. Calling this beer an IPA on the label is misleading. It’s an ok bitter

On handpull at GBBF 2010. Amber colour with no head. A very sweet and fruity nose. Caramel and fruity flavour. It was an extremely flat and dead tap. Think I have to try it one more time. It was like a rich fruit juice.

Cask at Kingston Arms, Cambridge, UK on 13th August 2011. Deep amber with diminishing nonlacing off-white head. Sweet caramel aroma. Sweetness continues into liquid with boild sweet and vegetable tastes. Quite sharp and acidic in finish, very smooth mouthfeel. Overall on the bland side.

Tap @ the Tankerville Arms, Longden, Shropshire. Pours cloudy amber/honey with a good head. The nose has honey and malt. The taste has malt and raisins. The palate has a medium body, a good texture but the finish is not as clean as I’d prefer. Overall, this is a decent ale, but not worth having another.

Cask at The Lamb and Flag near Covent Garden. Pours copper with a few white bubbles. Aromas of malt and medium dark fruit. Flavor is smooth sweet non-roast malt with some balancing fruity hops. Doesn’t finish very bitter, but with time the tongue decides it’s bitter. Nuts and apples? That adds up to somewhat darkish fruit? Ok. Whatever, it tasted nice.
