The Kölsch beer was born in Cologne (Köln), Germany, and rides the line between an ale and a lager. Attempting to make a lager, historic conditions prevented the Kölsch beer from fermenting cool enough to qualify as a true lager. Our version drinks like a German Pils or Pale Lager, but with less bitterness and a slight fruitiness imparted by the unique yeast strain. Bright, straw-yellow, and smooth, Kölsch is a perfect summer lawnmower beer. Available draft only until we’ve had enough, which may be awhile…

Lemon, sour milk, malt, and straw aroma. Golden yellow with moderate white head and mild effervescence. Mildly sweet citrus, milky malt, and very mildly bitter straw flavor. Good body. Pleasant, easy drinking.

Crisp, clear golden coloured body with a nice thick pure white head, about three centimetres tall. Aroma of light sugars, some wheat, a touch of grass and a very crisp, biscuity malt scent that hits nicely. Light-bodied; Nice dry and biscuity flavour with yeast and fresh cut grass noticeable at first, complete with a good but light sweetness from caster sugar at the end Aftertaste shows some dry and crisp notes with a very mild and subdued toasted malt characteristic that keeps this very interesting and complex while still remaining very light. Overall, a quite nice and approachable kolsch that hast the flavours that you'd want to see from a Kolsch, but without any harshness or pungency from the lager yeast. Nice to sample and well worth trying if you like lagers and can find this one! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from BeerTopia in Omaha, Nebraska on 05-February-2018 for US$1,67 sampled in my hotel room here in Omaha, Nebraska two days later on 07-February-2018 with snow and single-digits temperatures, not the sun and warmth that would be much more typical for the style.

On tap at the brewery. Clear light yellow appearance with a white head. Aroma has a little spice, flour, grass, and weeds. Fairly clean. A little corny and a little too sweet. Drinkable but slightly below average.

Bottle. A- Grainy, corn, honey, slightly sweet. A- Yellow color, clear liquid, minimal white head. T- Slightly sweet, balanced, grain, honey. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, crisp finish. O- Kolsch is far from my favorite style but this one was alright. Would be nice for a hot summer day. Crisp, balanced, and refreshing. Not a flavor bomb but nice touches of honey and sweetness.
