Flüssiges bricht Fasten nicht – so lautete eine Fastenregel zu den Zeiten der Benediktinermönche in Weißenohe. Dieser Regel verdanken wir heutzutage den Spiegelkarpfen als Fastenspeise und den kräftigen Doppelbock als flüssige Nahrung in dieser kargen Zeit.

Bottles from House Of Trembling Madness. Clear amber/ruby body with a thin beige head. Low carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of toffee, brown bread, raisin and dried leaves. Flavour of Marmite, nuts and salted caramel. Medium body with a slick texture. Light fizz. Bold and tasty.

Bottle. Wine Rack, Sharrow, Sheffield. Clear, rich copper colour. Sturdy and thick, lasting, semi lacing, cream coloured head. Nose has toffee bits. Caramel malt. Spicy hop. Brown sugar. Taste is sweet and malty. Touch of hop spice bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel. Plenty of body. ABV is somewhat evident. Fine carbonation. Sweet and a little nutty on the finish.

Brown with a fleeting, foamy head. Fairly subdued aroma that goes light on the caramel for a bock. Roasted grains dominate with a slightly medicinal undercurrent. Taste is mildly bitter the whole way through. Medium to full-bodied, mild carbonation. Empty of flavor and aroma for a beer packing 8%. Still quite drinkable though.
