When Egomaniac came out in 2018, we introduced a hop addition of 30g/liter which was by that time the most anyone has ever done in Hungary. By now, we are pretty sure, that this is not the case anymore, but we still consider this one a really nice recipe for a beer.

Egomaniac is single-hop, trying to showcase the very characteristic of a single variety of hops. Originally this was Citra, then in the August of 2020, we’ve done it with Simcoe, so in 2021 it was Ekuanot’s turn with all the citrus-oriented together with hints of melon, berry, apple and papaya.

Ekuanot was first released back in 2014 as ‘Equinox’, but it’s still a favorite for a few of us here in the brewery, that’s why we never hesitated to rebrew Egomaniac this way!

Can at home, courtesy of the Mad crew. Pours hazy, murky orangeish golden with a white head. Nose is intense, fruity, zesty, grassy hops with a touch of tutti frutti. Taste is also rather fruity up first, but then it takes an unexpectedly spicy turn, which is pretty surprising on the one hand, and as it turns out, on the other hand it’s not really my cup of tea: it becomes overwhelming in the finish. It has a medium to big, somewhat creamy body and soft carbonation. A decent, well made beer, but the hop variety doesnt really work for me apparently.

Hopfiger, leicht karamelliger Beginn mit unterdurchschnittlicher Karbonisierung. Grasig, eher milde Herbe, mit der Zeit auch bitter werdend. Geringe Süße, hohe Süffigkeit, langer Nachhall. Gut. 12/12/13/12/10/12

Can. Milky amber, low white lace. Perfumed orange flower, stonefruit nose. Light chalky sparkly dry, clementines, soapy perfume, leafy bitterness, a bit cheesy, hard on the botanicals.

(Draught at Tritonia/Barrels, Stockholm, 31 July 2021) Cloudy yellow colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with citrus, tropical fruit, pine needles and fresh herbal hops. Fruity, hoppy taste with notes of citrus, lemon peel, pineapple, pine needles and a generous herbal, citric bitterness. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Fresh and tasty, with a rich hop presence. Very nice.

Huge thanks to Erzengel for sharing! Beer in the glass deep orange, nice head. Fresh hoppy aroma. Starts intense malty, dry, bitter. Notes of bitter lemon, some grapefruit. Finish milder, still fresh hoppy, mild bitterness. Interesting!

Thousand thanks to midovark for this can. Dusty mouldy nose. The beer starts fruity intense. Slightly sticky, with grainy fruity parts. Easy to drink, bitter with fruity parts in the end. Great stuff.
