Our Xtra Pale Ale, a.k.a. XPA, is a modern take on a pale ale and uses extra pale malts which gives a very neutral malt presence. The idea is to create a clean neutral foundation and sets the centre stage for the lovely Azacca and Chinook hops to express its mango, stone fruit and citrus qualities. Finishes dry and every sip refreshing. You will order the second pint before you know it.

Penang > Singapore rail excursion: a small can from Cold Storage supermarket on Joo Chiat Road, Singapore, and drunk at home here in Taipei. Aroma: over-ripe pineapple, though sweet and quite fresh. Appearance: semi-opaque honey amber with a generous cap of snow white froth. Palate: medium-bodied and a little bit sticky on the tongue, rather fizzy carbonation; finishes with a nice chewy mouth feel. Taste: medium-sweet with a pleasing biscuit flavoured backbone; fruit doesn’t really come through on this one, but it’s quaffable nonetheless.

330ml can shared with blackhaddock. Pours a hazed gold with good white head, lively carbonation. Aroma of gentle stonefruit. Continues to taste with a pleasant, balanced hazed exotic character, mild bitterness. Nice hazy sipper.

330ml can: BB 24th April 2024. Shared with minutemat at my place on 6th November 2023, during a mega tasting session. This was brought back to Shropshire from Singapore purely for me to enjoy, cheers Shirley. Lively stuff, it fair flew out of the can, very highly carbonated. Hazy light golden body, huge white head. Tropical fruit nose and taste, citrusy from start to finish, pity it exploded out the can!

I had this earlier today but forgot to post it… Brewlander XPA This was a Seijo Ishii find from Singapore which surprised me. It has a nice hop bouquet and raspy carbonation on a medium body. The taste is pretty good but at times rough. It gave me tutti-frutti, some earthy woodsy notes as well. It grew on me so I’d say it’s ok.

330ml can from Ales & Lagers, Publika, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Poured a hazy golden orange colour with a short-lived, frothy white head. The aroma is grainy malt, big tropical citrus. The flavour is moderate sweet and bitter, with a fresh, crisp, juicy orange, mango, stone fruit, light woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.
