With one of northern Europe's largest barrel cellars, we have a lot to choose from. For Batten Down The Hatches, we have hand- picked and tasted our way to a full-bodied, tasty and harmonious imperial stout. Cognac and aquavit from the barrels shine through easily, and help enhance the feeling of exclusive confectionery.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from HOTM. Pours black-brown with a creamy, beige head. Big sweet flavour, lots of dark malts, earth, ash, char, raisins, bourbon. Full bodied, lightly chewy, with fine carbonation. Warming finish, lightly sticky, more aged dark fruits, sturdy roast, rich dark malts. Good fun, not a ton of depth but it’s fairly drinkable for the strength.

Bottle. An unlcear dark brown beer with a small beige head. Some curtains. Cocoa, dark chocolate, some caramel sauce, brown sugar, booze hints, some oak and leather, and roasted malts in the aroma. Sort of spiced too. It's sweet, full-bodied and warming on the palate, quite bitter but not unbalanced, with a very soft carbonation. Brown sugar, caramel sauce, dark chocolate, some oak and booze, hints of coffee and a wee spiced hint in the flavor. Quite lasting finish. Nice indeed this one, sure a beer for the favorite chair. Still, it failed to really impress. 220323
