I was impressed with another quadrupel from Nogne O a few years ago, Belgian Triangle. Tonight, on the last day of 2022, I am sampling Skyscraper for the first time. In my hand is a 33 cl bottle that I obtained from an appreciated seller in the Netherlands. Taking my Trappistes Rochefort glass down from the cabinet, I pull the cap and pour. The view is a mahogany brown liquid with hardly any head although there is a steady stream of bubbles rising to the top. I smell ripe fruit and some sourness, a contribution from the wine barrels I assume. The glass is lifted for a drink. I have to say, this is a good tasting quad, better than the scent. Chocolate, berries, figs, multi-grain bread, malt, a wine presence, leather and dried dark fruit. Chewy too. A bit different from your standard quadrupel but interesting and tasty in a style that is my favorite. A fine way to finish up the year.

Grumsete ultramørkeurun. . Middels høyt skum med litt farge. Detter sammen i rasende fart med mye lyd. Aroma av nøtter & rødvin. Smaken ditto. Krydder slår inn etter hvert. Tørr, rødvinspreget avslutning.

Bottle. Very dark brown with a fat coat of beige head that never disappears. Big oaked red wine aroma with blackberries, brioche, dried figs, spices. Dried fruit jumps out at you in the taste (freshly dried isn't a thing is it?) with figs, brambles, raisins, mace, anise - above more rumbling dark sugars and brioche. Dryish with slight bitterness, oak and some leafy/ tannin notes at the end. No overt alcohol. Complexity is nothing without structure and balance. This is something.
