The Chr. Heurich Brewing Co. Senate Beer—a classic corn lager—brand was popularized in the 1890’s, survived Prohibition, and was produced until 1956.

Right Proper’s Senate Beer revival was developed by analyzing a 20-page laboratory report on Senate Beer from 1948 to recreate the historic DC hometown favorite.

Generous unofficial half pour @Proper. Clear, light amber, frothy pour. Husky corn, faint malt char, crackers. Taste is softly sweet malt & richer corn, saline with a slight pepper. Bitey, pushy carb. Good for what it is.

Can from source: fizzy yellow with white head. Aroma is sickly apple and grain. Taste is macro sweetness and light bitterness. Okish.

Keg at Right Proper, DC, 13/04/23. Clear golden with an off white cap that thins to a swirl. Nose is pale malts, cereals, grains, straw, herb. Taste comprises pale malts, hint of vanilla, toasted grains, straw, cereals. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Okay lager.

Draft: Poured a golden with a white lacing head. Aroma is grain, sweet, grassy. Taste is sweet grain and grassy. Very refreshing on a crazy hot April day.

Tap at the brewery in Washington DC. A clear golden orange coloured pour with a fine white head. Aroma is semi sweet, dry cereals, grass, earthy dusty grains. Flavour is composed of semi sweet earthy cereal, earthy pils, grass. Palate is mineral. Honey. Little sweet for a lager.
